Overactive Bladder Medications

Ditropan (Ditropan XL, oxybutynin):

  • Dry mouth
  • Constipation
  • Less commonly diarrhea
  • Retention of urine
  • Flushing of the skin or "overheating"
  • Fast heartbeat
  • Skin rash
  • Sleepiness
  • Mood changes

Detrol (Detrol LA):

  • Constipation or diarrhea
  • Dry mouth
  • Retention of urine

Commonly Used Antibiotics

Amoxicillin (amoxil):

  • Diarrhea
  • Hives
  • Nausea/vomiting
  • Thrush/yeast infections

Pen VK (Penicillin V Potassium):

  • Diarrhea
  • Hives or other type of allergic rash
  • Nausea/vomiting

Septra (trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole, Sulfatrim, Bactrim):

  • Nausea/vomiting
  • Skin rash
  • Sensitivity to the sun
  • Neutropenia (low white blood cell count) (with long term use)

Macrodantin (furadantin, nitrofurantoin):

  • Lack or loss of appetite
  • Nausea/vomiting

Keflex (cephalexin hydrochloride):

  • Diarrhea
  • Yeast infections/thrush
  • Allergic rash
