Postoperative Instructions
Pyeloplasty

- Use appropriate dose of acetaminophen (Tylenol) or Motrin for pain control. You may receive a Tylenol with Codeine prescription for stronger pain relief.
- Do not use aspirin.
- Your child may start with clear liquids the night after surgery then increase the next day as tolerated.
- Your child may be up and around with limited physical activity. No physical education or outside recess.
- Your child will probably go home from the hospital with a drain. This will be removed in the office as scheduled by the doctor.
- No tub baths until after the drain is removed.
- The dressing will need to be changed one to two (1-2) times daily, more often if soaked.
- The stitches will dissolve out on their own/Steri-Strips will fall off on their own in a few weeks.
- It will take several weeks for the wound to heal. Initially, there may be some swelling and bruising.
