Postoperative Instructions
Repair of Undescended Testicle, Hydrocele and Hernia

- Use appropriate dose of acetaminophen (Tylenol) for pain control. You may receive a Tylenol with Codeine prescription for older children.
- Do not use aspirin.
- Child may start with clear liquids the night after surgery then increase the next day as tolerated.
- Your child should be in the house only participating in light activities four (4) days after the surgery.
Older children: Bed to chair activities the day of surgery and the day after.
Infants/toddlers: Ice pack, "quiet activities."
- Child may not use riding toys for three (3) weeks.
- No tub baths for three (3) days. Sponge bath only.
- If a dressing is in place, remove it the next morning after surgery and leave steri-strips in place.
- If no dressing is in place, then wound glue was applied over the sutures. No special care is needed. Do not use antibiotic ointments.
- The stitches will dissolve out on their own.
- It will take several weeks for the wound to heal. Initially, there may be some swelling and bruising.
- Call anytime for excessive swelling, bleeding, infection, or persistent fever over 101.6 degrees.
