Postoperative Instructions
Repair of Undescended Testicle, Hydrocele and Hernia

- Use appropriate dose of acetaminophen (Tylenol) for pain control. You may receive a Tylenol with Codeine prescription for older children.
- Do not use aspirin.
- Child may have food and drink as tolerated.
- Child may be up and around as desired.
- Child may not use riding toys for one (1) week.
- No tub baths for four (4) days. Sponge bath only.
- If a dressing is in place, remove it the next morning after surgery and leave steri-strips in place.
- If no dressing is in place, then wound glue was applied over the sutures. No special care is needed. Do not use antibiotic ointments.
- The stitches will dissolve out on their own.
- It will take several weeks for the wound to heal. Initially, there may be some swelling and bruising.
- Call anytime for excessive swelling, bleeding, infection, or persistent fever over 101.6 degrees.
